Maruti Suzuki has launched a facelift of the Alto 800. The new car is available for a price of Rs 2.49-3.34 lakh and is now 9 per cent more fuel-efficient than the earlier model. The car also gets a provision for fog lamps, which are well-integrated in the bumper. The lower half of the bumper houses a large intake, which as compared to the last generation car has been inverted to make it look more aggressive. The car now has a fuel economy of 24.7kmpl and the CNG version also shows an improvement of over 10 per cent above its predecessor with a mileage of 33.44kmpl. Other updates include remote keyless entry and updated interior upholstery across the range.

Datsun has launched the redi-GO in the country at an introductory price of Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The entry-level small car is available in 5 variants – D, A T, (O) and S, with the top-of-the-line variant priced at Rs 3.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) making it the most affordable in the segment. The stylish hatchback is based on the same CMF-A platform as the Renault Kwid and even uses the same engine – an 800cc petrol motor that develops 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox though an automatic (AMT) version is expected to launch in future. Claimed mileage is rated at 25.17kmpl, again, same as the Kwid.

Volkswagen has launched its first sub 4-metre sedan, Ameo, at a starting price of Rs 5.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The pricing, though introductory, makes it cheaper than even the Polo hatchback! The Ameo is currently available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine mated to 5-speed manual gearbox but a diesel variant with the upgraded 1.5-litre TDI engine will be launched in August along with one with a DSG automatic transmission. The sedan will be available across all VW showrooms starting July 2016 and is expected to give tough competition to Honda Amaze , Swift Dzire, Tata Zest among others.
